Macaroni and 4 Cheese

It is the middle of winter and the cold weather is not letting up. When it has consistently been below the
freezing mark for weeks at a time you need food that does more than just fill you up. You need something that warms you from within, satisfies your hunger and comforts you all in one sitting. Mac and Cheese does just that. Everyone likes it and you can put anything and everything in it and/or anything adn everything on the side to accompany it. We chose to go with chicken and green beans but this recipe, by my faves Ellie Kreger, has a secret ingredient no one will suspect or be able to taste. Again, this woman is a genius in my book. The last time I made mac 'n cheese (seen here ) it turned out decent enough, but this one knocks the books off the shelves.

Winter Still in Full Effect

Chunky hat KaciasPremoCrochet

The Great Lakes have undergone one massive snow storm the past two days. Everyone is pretty much snowed in or frozen in. And if they are out on the roads you know they slipin' and a slidin' (at least I was yesterday for sure). Last week, however, there was a sort of thaw going on in the area and temperatures rose to around 45- 50 degrees. Spring seemed like it was in sight and everyone was able to shed a few layers of clothing protection. Within one day (more like a few hours) we went from no snow on the ground to roughly seven. Temperatures are still near freezing and winter is letting us know its not soon to go away. In all honesty this makes me a little happy. Just one more reason to break out my favorite chunky sweaters and cozy woolen socks. I don't even mind the fact my hubby and I have to "cuddle" on the couch to stay warm. Here's a breakdown of a few winter favorites.

L.A.M.B. Stiletto's

This week has been anything but inspriring. Got called into work twice, still in the process of remodeling our kitchen (which means its literally a disaster area) and have been working/stressing about a Mom2Mom sale I will be a vendor at. With the exception of Valentine's Day this week had the potential of being just plain ole' ick. A collage is something I can always rely on to lift my spirits. I have a bit of a girl crush on Gwen Stefani. She can do no wrong in my book.

Happy Valentine's Day

I couldn't decide which song I liked best so decided to keep them both. Plus, a little extra love on Valentine's Day never hurt;)

Sunshine Day

Michigan has been all sun for the past few days and I have been loving every minutes of it. Usually, if you hail from any where near the north east, you would be suffering from Seasonal Affect disorder right about now. Winter time grays make way for the winter time blues. Endless days of gray and white and just a sense a bleakness rule this time of year. But not this week. It's almost like the winter is getting it's full quota of sunshine and trying to squeeze it in in just a few days. Either way I am ecstatic. Sunshine instantly makes anything your doing that more bearable. Walking the dog in negative degree weather, that more bearable. Remodeling your kitchen (which we currently are in the process of) that more bearable. Waiting for spring to come to break out all your cute shoes and dresses, that more bearable. And on that not brings me to my latest post. All this sunshine has got me thinking of all the fabulous yellow options for my wardrobe. I have never been one to wear much yellow but Wednesday's post (seen here) and all this sunlight have really got me in the spirit to wear some cheerful colors more often. It just feel good being cheery.

Pink Rooms

photo via fuptowncountryhome.blogspot.com via Jonathan Adler
I don't know what it is, but as of late I have been very attracted to the color pink. Pink books (seen here), pink clothing, and most recently, pink rooms. A couple weeks back I shared that I was painting my new office in my new home with my new husband ( I love saying that!) a light shade of pink, Lovelight, to be exact. But, being a girl I seem to have quite a few more things than my husband has in his office. This fun little fact is now the cause of us switching offices so that I might have the larger one to accommodate all my "stuff". This just means i get o paint another room pink (yay!) but also have to paint my previous office a nice shade of green for my husband. Last night I got the chance to pick out more pink paint samples (although I will probably still end up with the one I chose before) and a chance to flip through some magazines at Barnes and Noble that just so happened to be featuring pink rooms. I'm sure it was due to the fact that Valentine's Day is right around the corner but I am still so glad they decided to feature them. Here are few I think are just amazing and I hope they would inspire you to consider the fresh hue for more than just a babies room.

This is an Amazing Treasury

I am in love with treasury. I don't know if its because there hasn't been much sun (although today is nice and sunny) in the north east or the fact that it makes me wan to drink down a whole jug of ice cold feeling good lemonade. Either way, I have to share it with as many people possible. Instead of posting all the pics separately I will provide you with the link so you may click and enjoy the amazing goodness of this treasury. Bravo.

Pillow Cushion Slip Covers

I have finally been able to make the pillow cushions I have been thinking for about, oh, the past 6 months. It seems like very time i would start to make them, or attempt to, something else would grab my attention that needed working on or I just was not even able to because of other wonderful life events. But yesterday I have finally been able to complete them and take pictures of them. They will be available for sale in my shop soon enough and they will also be available in other colors, (and hopefully other designs as well:).  As for now, these are my favorite things to rest my head and back on.

Blueberry Buckwheat Pancakes

This past week, Michigan, along with pretty much half of the country, experienced one of the nastiest snow storms in recent history. Wednesday I woke up to find I could not even open my front door due to the massive amounts of snow that had fallen the night before. Since I was barely able to make it out my front door and absolutely unable to drive down my road, my husband and I were forced to entertain ourselves inside for the day.  What is quite possibly the best entertainment and best way to kill time? Cooking! I have been dying to make these pancakes ever since I moved in and I must say they taste that much sweeter. My husband and I stayed warm and our bellies full with this awesome recipe from Ellie Kreger.  I have found that peanut butter is an amazing addition to any pancake. These included.

In Bloom

Winter is no joke. It takes a strong sort of person to come out of it  unscathed by all the gray dreary days and bone chilling nights. Seasonal affect disorder can definitely start taking a toll on anyone with all the monochromatic scenery every which way any one would look. One way I have found to beet the winter blues is an easy and affordable and very fresh smelling way. Bye some flowers. Flowers instantly add pops of color to your home and fill the hallways with fresh scents you have been missing since September. You don't have to go all out and spend mucho bucks on them either. A few simple carnations in pretty pinks and yellows, some mellow greenery with bamboo shoots by a window, and if your feeling fancy a couple of roses. Which ever you pick from you can't go wrong. Little splashes of color can go a long way when the weather doesn't show signs of stopping.
